24 VDC Power Supply Distribution example

This template starts with the main 24 VDC power supply, which provides the control voltage for the electrical system.

In this example, the incoming AC supply is first connected to a 2-pole circuit breaker. The circuit breaker protects the power supply against overload current and provides a means of disconnecting it from the supply when required for maintenance.

The circuit breaker then feeds a Siemens SITOP PSU100S 24 V / 10 A power supply. The power supply converts the incoming AC voltage into a regulated 24 VDC supply for the control system.

The second page continues from the main 24 VDC supply and introduces individual protection for the downstream load groups.

In this example, the 24 VDC control voltage is connected to two MURR Elektronik electronic circuit breakers. Each electronic circuit breaker provides four independently protected channels, allowing the 24 VDC supply to be divided into separate load groups.

Each channel can be assigned to a specific group of devices depending on the requirements of the electrical system. For example:

  • Control cabinet devices – relays, contactors, indicator lights, etc.

  • Field devices – actuators and other devices located outside the cabinet

  • PLC I/O – PLC input and output modules

  • Sensors – proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, switches, etc.

  • Solenoid valves and other 24 VDC actuators

This arrangement provides individual protection for each load group. If a fault or overload occurs in one group, its corresponding channel can disconnect the affected circuit while allowing the other 24 VDC circuits to remain operational.

The third page shows the outputs of all channels from the electronic circuit breakers connected to individual terminal groups.

These terminals provide the connection point between the protected 24 VDC distribution and the actual loads and devices in the electrical system. Instead of connecting field devices directly to the electronic circuit breakers, the protected 24 VDC circuits are routed through terminal groups, providing a clear and organized distribution point.

Each terminal group can be assigned to a specific load or group of devices, such as sensors, PLC I/O, solenoid valves, relays, contactors, or other 24 VDC equipment.

This arrangement makes the wiring easier to install, identify, troubleshoot, and maintain. It also provides a convenient point for connecting and disconnecting individual loads during commissioning or maintenance.
