PLC and IO cards schematic example
This example shows how a SIMATIC S7-1500F CPU 1516F-3 PN/DP is connected to the electrical supply and how the protective earth connection is made to the PLC mounting rail.
The CPU is supplied with the required 24 VDC control voltage. The power supply connections are shown together with the corresponding 0 VDC connections, providing a clear overview of how the PLC is electrically connected to the control system.
The drawing also shows the PE connection to the PLC mounting rail. The rail is connected to protective earth to ensure that the metallic mounting structure is properly bonded to the cabinet's protective earth system.

PLC I/O Cards and Addressing
This drawing shows the PLC I/O cards used in the control system and provides an overview of the individual input and output connections on each card.
Each I/O card is identified by its device tag (DT), while all of the card's individual I/O pins are shown in the drawing. This makes it possible to clearly identify each physical connection and its position on the corresponding PLC card.
Next to each I/O connection, the drawing provides the associated PLC address, reference, and function text. The PLC address identifies the corresponding input or output in the PLC program, while the reference and function text provide information about the signal and what it is used for in the electrical system.
